well, at the very least he didn’t actually drag her to that godddamned tea party that she had already expressed she didn’t wish to go to. tbh I actually thought he’d take her there to be humiliated just to achieve his goal to “introduce them as couple in society early”, that’s how shitty he is so far. I thought perhaps he’d just stand at her side and say something hard to the ladies mocking her. I’m glad to see he’s not a complete asshole, and actually has some common sense (because I doubt this is empathy or even sympathy).

still, he’s incredibly stupid to be wondering why people think he’s been manipulated by her when he knows full well how people in high society treats her and what kind of reputation they’ve built for her. it’s literally mentioned every chapter in some way or form. it’s just unreasonable to expect he wouldn’t connect the dots here. of course that when he does a harsh decision that bothers everyone else the fault would fall on her, and not on him, the perfect prince.
