Anyone wanting a not grim story you should drop this. This story is one of those that deals with war and it’s fallout. Love wise- it’s more of finding empathy, understanding and forgiveness.
Having read the novel I don’t excuse what the ML does but just know he has a backstory that predate hers and it’s tragic. He does love her and loved her years before they even met. He’s just warpped by certain things that the story will get into way later. The first part of the novel is about her then him and then them.
