The more a read the more I think that he wasn’t going to torture her. I think he probably was going to help her dad and rescue her.

The missing panels is her saying how her reasoning is that “even though you’re someone with no house or money, you’re vetted by my father already (since you’re his student), so he shouldn’t have an issue”. And the sash Max is wearing has been translated by someone to “strongest cat”.
The panels following after the “let’s kiss”, shows Max blush/screaming like a flustered maiden. Followed by a panel of the two leaning closer as one (most likely Max) or both is thinking “is this happening? My first kiss?”
After that you see a panel selection of “suitor candidates”, first one being the playboy (deflated ghost mode after Duke threatened him). Jubel’s ex, labeled “the eternal psychopath” (wouldn’t surprise me if he was the one behind the poisoning since Jubel maintains it wasn’t her). And lastly “Max, stray cat (did you pick him because of his looks?)” And a mention that Geraldine (her cousin, one of the guards) will be making an appearance.
