I think Lari wanted assurance that Rupert loves her.. To be fair, he can’t admit it yet and don’t fully understand what real love means. So I think time off with each other to find themselves will be better. To subside those negative feelings.

Im re-reading this and honestly, I don’t have anything against her for doing this because think about it. If your whole family deceived you, saying they would listen to her, not commit treason knowing all of them would die, USING her as the key for this whole plan, and not telling her the secret of her birth. She went through all the trouble of making Rupert cherish her so he wouldn’t do anything to her family, I would do the same. I would let go of everything and do what she did. Running away is the best option in this scenario.

Her family’s treachery really did a number on her. It broke her and in turn Rupert. She lost faith in love and trust and happiness and doesn’t belive it’s in the cards for them. Trauma like that is going to be hard to get over. Even more so for the poor ML. She had become his reason to live and open up a whole new world for him and it just crumpled, and she knows that. Guit is a heavy burden, and her birth and adoptive family’s actions are not her fault, and yet she is facing the consequences. 😢
