I am angry at both of them. First Riftan who did not listen to what she ACTUALLY said, alright he is worried about her and does not want to put her in any harms way, it’s pretty understandable concern from someone who loves her and adores her. That said, she clearly thinks that he doesn’t want to bring her because of lack of her magical skills (don’t know why, when he mentioned multiple times about danger and never mentioned anything about her being capable to do her job as a mage, but what ever). Right thing for him was to first clear up misunderstanding and then say what he said afterwards. Sadly, sorry to disappoint all the girls but most men are like Riftan where they just fail in communicating their feelings.
And now Maxi, alright she haves trauma of being useless garbage by her actual useless garbage of what she calls father. That said, her argument points were wrong and just like Riftan she completely failed to talk about her own feelings. Instead she just demanded without actually explaining reason to WHY she is insisting to go with them.
Both are actually scared for each other, and if Maxi pointed out her feelings of “Yes, as you said it’s very dangerous and just as you, I am scared for your well being.” This conversation would be much smoother, it would still most likely end up in refusal from Riftan as he would say something among the lines of “I have experience with this kind of things.” but, all the yelling between the two would not happen.
Riftan wouldn’t feel as if he made her life hard by doing all the dangerous stuff since she married him (considering he haves NO CLUE how she was threated)
Maxi wouldn’t be hurt by thinking she is useless yet again (even though its a giant misunderstanding between the 2).
Point being, communicating what u actually feel instead of beating around the bush is the quality of life!

People empathise with Maxi because this is just a story…,but in reality, if I AM A COMMANDER about to go to a dangerous campaign, NO WAY will i take a mage who only started what 3 months ago with little to NO stamina and reckless for that matter. She would just add to the burden.

Ajinax, I agree with you 100%, that’s what relationships are about. Nobody goes into a relationship fully prepared, some live and learn, but these things are inevitable. But that’s the beauty, learning how to forgive, love, and communicate with one another through the process of healing and or growth. As long as both are willing to never give up and always find a solution they will undoubtedly become a force to be reckoned with. That’s for anybody who takes in this advice.
