If you have read the novel, you might also know that there is a Riftan’a POV of his childhood and how he had seen Maxi and she was his only happiness and he used to dream of her and want to see her all the time, but Maxi isn’t aware of that and Riftan seems to be embarrassed about the fact that she doesn’t remember meeting him when they were both young

It reminded him of the days where he thought Maxi and his disposition that time were worlds apart.
He never thought he would one day marry his dream girl.
And also the things he did to get her.
I personally think it was traumatizing (since I’m made of cotton & paper)…
