Humans paint themselves as “good” creatures, hence the word “humane.” But in actuality, calling one “human” doesn’t, or shouldn’t, mean that one is “good.”
Humans are naturally quite cruel, and they can be just as cruel as they can be nice. A human isn’t all good, and isn’t all bad. Humans are both, which is why many religions consider them a middle ground between good and evil.
That’s why the character of Mahito from Jujutsu Kaisen is so brilliant- he is born from the hatred of humanity towards one another, and considers himself a true curse. But his name means “true person”, as he is a reflection of the true nature of humanity. He’s a merciless villain with no hint of “humane” in him, but that’s exactly the ironic point- he IS the cruelty humans can be.
