There’s actually an inconsistency here that nobody in the story seems to be picking up on. They’re all expecting her to still be a love crazy woman for her husband, but three of them at the table that those articles were riddled with lies about her. If she were truly pretending to not have changed in the presence of her father, then she should be pretty much insulting the Marquis for being her father’s enemy for printing those lies about his friend’s daughter.
