I’m several months late to this, but this what I understood:
He basically told the entire room that he and Lucy slept together, and that if Zed (Jed?) knew, he wouldn’t want anything to do with her anymore because she was used goods. Estelle-turned-Lucy accused him of assault (which he did during the banquet she went to at the story’s start) and that Zed already knew about it, which led to the prince escalating things and threatening her.
Zed overhears the whole thing and basically tells the prince he won’t have the Heint family’s support in his claim to the throne.
The queen makes everyone who witnessed the altercation sign a confidentiality contract, so word doesn’t get out. It’s he-said-she-said situation, and some of the women were probably eager to talk about it openly in favor of the prince and smearing Lucy’s reputation in the process.
