While I understand you not liking the story and feeling repulsed by it you don’t have to read it no one’s forcing you to and while yes it is a general critique that their relationship is not the healthiest there might be more to it that we just don’t know yet and well yes it’s a cliche and it’s been overdone he’s at least trying to grow that’s not going to make up for what he did but he is at least trying that’s more than most male leads I know
