Found the proper chapter on a different site:
– Duke’s mother was shown in her study, ahead of thr meal, receiving a report about Giselle. It included the rumours about her and the trashy male leads, and how she is treated poorly in her adoptive family. The Duke’s mother has the impression Giselle won’t fit in.
– When the Duke and Giselle steps in his mother makes subtle socialite jabs at Giselle, who doesn’t rise to the bait. There’s a brief summary over how one of the maids tries to spill water on Giselle, and the food on her plate being notably lower quality while still edible. Giselle drank the water and ate the food.
– At one point her dress gets damaged because a maid dropped a knife while taking her plate away. Duke’s mother makes comments about how in the Calinos family the wives can be expected to go onto the battlefield with their husbands and live on military rations and such.
– Duke’s mother says Giselle has no place there/with the family. Giselle decides to prove she can totally stay anywhere with the Duke, by seating herself on the Duke’s lap. She whispered for him to play along and act in love, which he does though a bit clumsily.
– Duke’s mother still doesn’t approve but she does tell them to try and go ahead with the marriage if they’re so determined. She then leaves. The younger brother asks some questions too but Giselle just says they’re in love and Duke takes her away to “spend time with his Dar…ling.”
– On the balcony the Duke and Giselle go over how it went, the Duke agrees but says to refrain from unnecessary physical contact in the future. Giselle asks if he means the whole “sat on his lap” thing, and Duke says yes, because ever since she did that his heart has been fluttering/racing.
