      I would think that even if it is a test, her life is in danger if she doesn’t manage to get away. She knows from the novel that ML doesn’t have as much power in Utopia as others do, so even if she could trust him, he might not be capable of completely protecting her. I can’t blame her for wanting to get away if she can.
