@Zaido Because one of the underlying themes of the story is that women were not given the same opportunities in this time period unless they fought tooth and nail for them, and still risked being ostracized while doing so. This could be why Antherine dresses like a man.
Astina helped Arthur get into knight training, so no, she is not just helping women. She is paying special attention to Jessie’s circumstances because Arthur is not facing the same roadblocks because.. he is a man.
Astina is supporting Isis not solely because she is a woman–it’s because Primo is a blatently misogynistic d*ck who would be disenfranchising half of the population.
Astina is not “supporting” Antherine because Antherine not only doesn’t need it because Antherine has already established her position on her own, but because they have become friends.

that’s a pretty shortsighted way of reading this. She simply sees the potential of these women in a time where the other men clearly belittle and bully them. She helped arthur too and she doesn’t gain anything from him other than his loyalty. Plus the prince sucks, she literally said she was just gonna support Isis out of spite.
