Emperor is female and she accepts concubines of both genders. But right now I believe that except for Sanya everyone else is male (probably so the clans can have a royal heir with their blood).
The translator probably put everything through google translate which resulted in pronouns and titles getting gendered wrongly. It would also explain why for example “mama” is still there, which from my understanding means essentially ” her royal highness”.

I think is because in chinese a common formal way to call concubines was title/name niangniang. Niang can mean lady but most commonly mother. So if they translate if from the chinese, the conbunine being called niangniang as a formal way to refer to her could be translated buy error as mama
