I like the idea that just the presence of some powerful mage, or magical being, makes the place too dense for most people to move or even breath.
Tried to right a story in a fantasy world, not unlike that. My character, Altair S Videira, was from Earth, and he would became a user of magic in the new Universe: I started with those aspects defined. However, unlike this story here I decided next to jump the years of learning magic. Say nothing about the inside of a “Magical University” on Sharitarn. Because I didn’t wanted to take the risk of being compared to Harry Potter.
It’s a bold, brave, choice. To take that risk.
For what I saw so far (up to chapter 30) the autor succeeded in build a new and surprising fantasy world. With meaningful conflicts and likeable characters.
The anarchist, egalitarian, sadistic, tyrant (aren’t all anarchist tyrants, anyway ? ) lich is a particularly nice touch.
