I think the thing with Canaria was just that she saw her influence as minimal. Like: “If i alter my behaviour I can change the story just enough to not end up dead.” (And then the emperor got her marked for death anyways just yesterday). But overall in her mind the story would remain the same because she thought Caesar’s main motivation/desire was to become emperor regardless of who was by his side. So she has been operating under “path of least resistance” and had her “part” of the story on a deadline that was imminent.
Now Caesar, not the gossip of other people, has told her point blank that his main motivation/desire is Canaria.
I see it as a bit like how after Canaria told Caesar that he wasn’t on the battlefield and he could relax, he was able to. Canaria has now been told that loving Caesar, and being loved by him, is an actual option. So it had her looking at everything again, including the “Oh, so my actions and changes has larger effect than I realised?”
She just realized that now lol wait ’til she knoew about Oscar, the character from background stories that’s now actively mixing in in the original plot
