At this point is blatant that the “person he hurt” is her which means he was the one behind what happened 5 years ago. Why else would he need to wait until the trial is over and why else would be might not be about to stay with her?

Maybe he knew about it and couldn’t do much about it like maybe it was a plan with the crown prince and the crown prince is his brother and he found out the truth lining behind it 5 years ago and that’s why he felt the need to help her go through the trouble when she arrived to the lab, that he feels responsible that he somewhat was apart in it or knew about it but could do nothing about it
