He isn’t nice. He is shaken by the word of Zen, about his hipocrasy since he used his blood on Pereshati. That is why he is out of sort. Theo now doesn’t realise it, but he loved Pereshati now (the blond blue eyed guy saw it). That is why Zen’s word reminded him of that starting point of his and Pereshati.
