The way I damn near squealed when I saw he’d kept the handkerchief and had tried to mend it on his own.
Also, while the duchess is def coming off as callous I think it’s rooted in concern for her son seeing as he is liable to get commentary based on being himself (Elena herself even pointed out how his appearance isn’t the standard men are actively conforming to in “high society”. And we can already see him being self conscious about his scar because he worries what she might think.) So I, for now, believe she is trying to guard him by lessening his apparent ties to the “casanove princess” so he won’t have even more for other nobles to gossip about in this conservative society.
