It’s really selfish that he doesn’t give her any option. I really find it frustrating and gross. Even if you love her you have to respect her decisions first.

God she is not the sharpest sword huh.
Off the top of my head ways to have gotten through eith this.
1. Requested a private meeting eith emporer: Tell him youve been spiritually summoned to go on a quest and which should only take <1 year. If expresses worry state you will bring a small guard with you.
2. Tell him you were cursed and need to complete a couple hidden (by the curse) criteria before you can lift it
3. When locked in room hwve doctor examine you in 'private' and tell him to lie and state you need to get out of the palace and relax in the countryside for a couple months to recover.
4. Invite him to go travel with you on a "visit tour" of his territory.
And that is all just off the top of my head.
Just repeating " you are misunderstanding!" And not having a lie even set up is so dumb
