I think that she was never a true villainess to begin with but being manipulated into being one.
Yes, she might have disliked mingling with commoners but to get to the point to kill Maria was probably because of manipulation.
Maybe I am wrong but the story is interesting so far.

Also what is with the whole, ” I won’t break of the engagement” trope? I realize they did sign documentation but she can just no longer act as his fiancee. Like not go places with hom, tell people she dumped him, etc. the only thing he can do is stop her from getting engaged again due to already being engaged.

… this is beyond. he can’t even grant her freedom, and all because he claims to be “interested” in her. after IGNORING and neglecting and disrespecting her for YEARS. can a man be MORE selfish????? he really doesn’t give a damn about her, just about his selfish wishes. and on top of that he claims he’d never betray her, are you for real???? even without the goddamn prophetic book, you NEVER EVEN GAVE HER A MINUTE OF YOUR DAY BEFORE. the audacity to claim that after every ounce of humiliation she had to endure, beind dragged along through that empty marriage promise he didn’t even plan to fulfill!!!!!

i mean the fact she’s not a transmigrator and ‘drank the kool-aid’ about their noble society opens up a lot of arguments from her. like she’s a noblewoman entering her twenties, and he’s been wasting her time. she has plenty of child bearing years left, but him dragging his feet for years and still not setting a date is a perfectly valid reason to break the engagement. she’s 20 years old and still hearing ‘maybe’ in a time without ivf where pregnancy is way more dangerous. he’s wasting her time.
if i was a woman with this conservative mindset in this setting (whether i hated children or not) having kids is just. apart of my future. i would have considered myself to be a failure if i didnt have them. thats how feudal power works. so him risking my fate of becoming an old maid would have been reason enough to get the fuck out of there, especially when there are other suitors out there who are annoying, but meet my requirements for a contractual marriage.
