In this case it makes lots of sense for her not to immediately know he has feelings. She’s an actor, she’s probably done plenty of romance things where there is no it’ll romantic things going on so- it’s understandable she’s of a mindset he’s not being genuinely in love with her.

The fact the she knows the duke is horrible at acting should’ve given her the hint that his actions are sincere.. if she thinks that his protection is acting, means she’s really into the part that she wouldn’t consider his true affection.
