I think it’s more of the fact that she has a hard time believing he could fall in love with someone like her since she’s been neglected by her mother and sister which is kinda of sad

I don’t think it’s that strange that she finds it hard to believe he loves her, just like he found it hard to believe she “loves” him. Both have lived being told by others that they’re unlovable, or being neglected.
