Ian is the King’s son. James was seen as a threat by King and thus the reason he was sent to the front lines of the war. He knows something and if he showed any TRUE care for Olivia, she could be used as a tool to control James, thus putting her in danger. So he chose to stay away and keep her in the dark. Plausible deniability if she ever got questioned. Olivia is a royal from Oresoe (don’t know the spelling of that neighboring kingdom) Kingdom, most likely the only royal even if illegitimate…? Or at least a higher ranking family from that kingdom at least. Either way, James Parnell was viewed as a threat to the current royal family thus why he got sent away, but it seems they have a law where you can’t send a noble that high ranking to where they may die without leaving them a means for an heir, so to save face the king chose a marriage partner for him, which was sheer coincidence to the characters… HOWEVER I think King did it on purpose to “humble” Parnell, as her Viscount step dad seemed to be a fallen noble. Blondie in the previous life may have remained single so as not to cause a civil war/war for the crown with cross dressing princess?
