It’s because of her father. For the first time, she was reflecting on her actions and how they might have caused harm to the person. When she was going to apologize, her father came in and put the idea that she did not have to feel sorry and could do whatever she wanted; that she should only care about herself. This caused her to go from being a slightly unlikable- but understandable child to a possessive child unable to see wrong in what she does, as it was embedded in her by the person she loves the most that she is always ‘right’.
Does this excuse her action? Nope, still hate her. But does it explain it? Yes.
