Why do they make so many main characters naive, if not stupid? Doesn’t it occur to her that the duke’s parents might be evil people and there’s nothing to be gained from associating with them? Sometimes being an orphan can be better than having evil parents. There is news that proves it. Nobody says that being an orphan is good, but she at least had someone who cared for his well-being, while he is still seen as a tool. She doesn’t realize what’s going on with him in regards to her? Nor did she wonder if Fatima wanted to dance with the duke, or what the duke wanted.
