I was also thinking the same thing. That godfather must have done something and the old Estella knew about it. So just to protect them, she pushed them away.

parents will do all they can to protect their children in whatever way then can and whatever it takes.
But there are wrong ways to do it, at often leads to huge misunderstandings and scars on the victims :/
