They were married at the time? And yes, he does play favorites, but he doesnt overlook his son. For instance he knows about the harsh training, but didnt step in because his son was not hurt. And when he passed the crown to Mabel he asked Oscar and was ready to abandon the plan if Oscar didnt want it
