If he fell for her at first sight, he probably did all that with her sister so she would marry him. As the friend said that the marriage was probably years in planning. He found the mine then, and claimed it. We’ll he did give the dad 50% of profit. The dad doesn’t have power or money to run a mine. Now he gets profit without overhead cost and Duke benefits also with money and yes Chloe reaction. So it’s like a common theme. He does something bad for a good reason. It’s like he wants to live but doesn’t know how to do it properly. He is to calculating for his own good, but then again, would he have gotten her otherwise?
But I guess that is where the betrayal in the name comes from. She will be heartbroken when she finds out
