Maybe they (this “species” group; I hate this term TBQH) rejected the empire and temple because they would lose everything to the human’s greed. There is a heavy mistrust with humans because of this. This mistrust has probably lasted for generations.

That’s what I was thinking this entire time… The people from the empire literally took her blood FOR FREE! If my blood had healing properties that can save people I’D AT LEAST LIKE THE TO ASK, IF NOT BEG! If not then how is the temple different from a group of thugs??
